"Amore Rosso" from Broc Cellars is a convivial and versatile natural red wine that pays homage to the charm of old-school Italian field blends, crafted by winemaker Chris Brockway in Berkeley, California. Sourced from the organically farmed Fox Hill Vineyard in Mendocino County, this wine’s composition shifts with each vintage—historically a pure Sangiovese, recent iterations like the 2022 blend 41% Barbera, 31% Dolcetto, 25% Negro Amaro, and 3% Nebbiolo. The Barbera and Dolcetto co-ferment in stainless steel open-top fermenters, while the Negro Amaro is vinified as a rosé, foot-stomped and left on skins for 24 hours before pressing. After nine months of aging in a mix of concrete tanks and neutral French oak barrels, it’s bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with minimal sulfur. Pouring a bright ruby, it offers a nose of dusting chocolate, blackberry, and fresh cherry, with a palate that’s juicy yet subtly structured—vibrant acidity and soft tannins make it a dream with pizza or a wide range of foods.
