Cantina Giardino Rosato Frizzante is a vibrant and lively natural sparkling rosé wine hailing from the Campania region of Italy, crafted by the artisanal winemakers Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola at Cantina Giardino. This wine showcases their dedication to preserving the local viticultural heritage of Irpinia through organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking. Typically made from a blend of indigenous grape varieties such as Aglianico, Primitivo, Piedirosso, and sometimes Coda di Volpe, sourced from old vines in the Montemarano area, it reflects the rugged, mineral-rich terroir of the region.
The production process begins with a short maceration on the skins—often just an evening—to extract a delicate, intense pink hue and subtle fruit flavors. The grapes are then pressed and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts, without temperature control, preserving the wine’s authentic character. To achieve its signature frizzante (lightly sparkling) quality, the wine is bottled with a small amount of residual must or sweet grape juice—sometimes from the previous vintage—triggering a natural second fermentation in the bottle. Unlike many sparkling wines, it undergoes no disgorgement, retaining a slight cloudiness and fine sediment that contribute to its rustic charm.
On the nose, Cantina Giardino Rosato Frizzante offers an inviting bouquet of small red fruits like griottes cherries, hints of blood orange, and delicate floral notes, often underscored by a touch of spice or earthy minerality. The palate is dry and refreshing, with a gentle fizz, lively acidity, and a burst of flavors—think little red berries, citrus zest, and a saline, mineral-driven finish that speaks to its volcanic origins. At around 12.5% alcohol, it’s a versatile, food-friendly wine, pairing beautifully with fried chicken, fish and chips, or as a lively aperitif for casual gatherings.
This pét-nat (pétillant naturel) rosé embodies the raw, unpolished beauty of natural wine, delivering a unique expression of Campania’s landscape and the De Gruttolas’ hands-off philosophy. Each vintage may vary slightly, reflecting the unpredictability and authenticity of this artisanal approach. Serve chilled, around 11°C, to fully appreciate its freshness and effervescence.
