Crafted by natural wine pioneers Anders Frederik Steen in Valvignères, Ardèche, Weightless Fingers 2023 is an intriguing rosé (bordering on white) made from a 50/50 blend of Grenache Noir and Grenache Blanc from their own Valgrand hillside vines. The grapes, harvested very ripe, undergo a slow, five-day direct press in a vertical wooden press, followed by fermentation in a fiberglass cuve and a short élevage over winter and spring on the lees. Bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without added sulfites, this wine embodies their "nothing added, nothing taken away" philosophy.
Pouring a pale, almost white hue, it defies traditional rosé categorization with a complex, savoury profile. Aromas of grapefruit zest, rose petals, and aniseed mingle with a subtle oxidative note from the extended pressing, delivering vibrant energy and a touch of salinity. The palate is delicate yet ample, with a refreshing, slightly bitter edge and a persistent finish. At 15.25% ABV, it’s bold yet balanced, ideal as an aperitif or paired with rich dishes or fusion cuisine. This unique, one-of-a-kind wine reflects the couple’s intuitive, terroir-driven approach in the clay-limestone soils of Ardèche.
