"Jazpemi" from Barbacàn is an exquisite natural red wine that stands as the flagship “cru” of this family-run estate in Valtellina, Lombardy, Northern Italy. Crafted primarily from Chiavennasca (the local name for Nebbiolo), with occasional traces of indigenous varieties like Rossola, Pignola, and Chiavennaschino, it hails from the Jazpemi vineyard in the Valgella subzone, where steep, sun-drenched terraces of sandy, shale-rich soils nurture vines planted in the 1930s. Managed organically by Angelo Sega and his sons Matteo and Luca, the grapes are hand-harvested in October and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, undergoing a lengthy maceration—sometimes over 90 days—to extract depth and character. Aged for 12 months in large Austrian oak barrels, the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites. Pouring a bright garnet red, "Jazpemi" offers a bouquet of ripe red fruits—raspberry, cherry, and rosebud—mingled with peppery spices, star anise, and a granitic minerality. On the palate, it’s elegant yet full, with smooth, enveloping tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, harmonious finish. A regal expression of alpine Nebbiolo, it pairs beautifully with red meat or pizzoccheri, embodying the Sega family’s dedication to artisanal, terroir-driven winemaking.
