"Anfora Rosato" from Cantina Giardino is a bold, natural rosé wine from the Irpinia hills of Campania, Italy, crafted by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola, who have been champions of the region’s old vines and native grapes since founding their winery in 2003. Typically made from a blend of Aglianico, Primitivo, Piedirosso, and sometimes Coda di Volpe, sourced from high-altitude vineyards on volcanic soils, this wine reflects the rugged beauty of its terroir. It’s produced exclusively in magnum bottles, emphasizing its role as a generous, crowd-pleasing pour.
The winemaking is minimalist and intuitive: grapes are hand-harvested, fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, and macerated on their skins for a short period—often just one to two days—before being pressed into large sandstone or terracotta amphorae for aging, typically around 9 to 12 months. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites, it pours a deep, hazy ruby-pink, hinting at its raw vitality. The nose bursts with sour cherry, blood orange, and rosehip tea, layered with alpine herbs and a touch of wet slate. On the palate, it’s dry and textured, with crunchy red fruit, a subtle tannic grip, and a refreshing, razor-sharp acidity that finishes with a bitter amaro twist.
With an alcohol content around 12-13%, "Anfora Rosato" is a versatile, food-friendly wine, pairing beautifully with hearty dishes like venison tartare, beetroot salad, or Campania’s classic pizza. Served slightly chilled, it’s a vibrant, soulful expression of Cantina Giardino’s ethos—unfussy, authentic, and deeply tied to the land, perfect for sharing at a lively table.
