Cantina Giardino Gaia is a compelling natural wine crafted by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola at their winery in Ariano Irpino, within the hilly Irpinia subregion of Campania, Italy. Made from 100% Fiano grapes sourced from a 90-year-old vineyard perched 500 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils with a volcanic cap, Gaia reflects the duo’s dedication to preserving old vines and traditional methods. The grapes undergo a 4-day skin maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and a year-long aging in large chestnut and mulberry casks. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites, this orange wine boasts a hazy golden hue and a complex, aromatic profile of white florals, apricot, and spiced citrus zest, with a chalky minerality and fine tannins rounding out a saline finish. At around 13% ABV, Gaia offers a structured yet electric drinkability, pairing beautifully with seafood, creamy cheeses, or vegetable dishes, embodying the raw, terroir-driven essence of Cantina Giardino’s philosophy.
