"Glu Glu" from Cantina Giardino is a refreshing, natural orange wine from the Irpinia hills of Campania, Italy, crafted by Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola, pioneers of the region’s natural wine movement. Typically made from local white grapes like Coda di Volpe or Greco—depending on the vintage—this wine is born from the couple’s mission to revive old vineyards and indigenous varieties grown on vibrant volcanic soils. The name "Glu Glu" evokes its easy-drinking, "glug-glug" nature, a hallmark of its light, playful style.
The winemaking process is minimalist: hand-harvested grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, often with a short skin maceration—sometimes just two to five days—before resting in stainless steel or fiberglass tanks. Unfined, unfiltered, and usually free of added sulfites, it pours a hazy amber or golden hue, reflecting its raw, unpolished character. The nose offers a burst of ripe stone fruit—peach or apricot—mingled with citrus peel, wild herbs, and a subtle funky edge. On the palate, it’s dry and crisp, with a light body, bright acidity, and flavors that dance between juicy fruit and a tea-like tannic bite, finishing with a mineral freshness.
With an alcohol content often as low as 10-11%, "Glu Glu" is a quintessential "glou-glou" wine—perfect for casual sipping at picnics, parks, or alongside Campania’s rustic dishes like seafood, light pastas, or fresh salads. It’s a vivid snapshot of the De Gruttolas’ dedication to letting the land speak, delivering a wine that’s both summery and soulful, with a touch of wild charm in every glass.
