DE LEVENDE Roby Red '21 (also known as Fred’s Roby Red) is a juicy, old-school California red blend from the De Levende natural wine project — a fun collaboration focused on organic/biodynamic fruit, zero additions, and pure, living wines with friends in Mendocino and Sonoma.
This 2021 vintage is a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from organically farmed vineyards in Redwood Valley (Mendocino County), with some mentions of Sebastopol influences. The grapes are handled with minimal intervention — spontaneous fermentation, unfined, unfiltered, and no added sulfur — resulting in a fresh, honest, and approachable red at 12.8% ABV.
Tasting Notes
It pours a vibrant ruby with medium body and offers generous ripe red fruits — think black cherry, plum, raspberry, and strawberry — layered with earthy undertones, soft spices, wild herbs, and a touch of classic Cab-Merlot structure. Velvety tannins, mild acidity, and a clean, smooth finish make it incredibly drinkable. It has that nostalgic 1970s California “farmer’s blend” vibe: ripe, juicy, and soulful without being heavy or over-extracted.
