Hailing from the storied Sancerre appellation in France's Loire Valley, the 2023 Sancerre from Domaine des Chasseignes is a vibrant expression of Sauvignon Blanc, crafted by husband-and-wife team Aurore Dezat and David Girard on their certified organic estate (in conversion since 2020). Founded by Dezat's grandfather, the domaine draws from diverse terroirs—limestone, clay, and silex (flint)—across the hillsides of Sury-en-Vaux, infusing the wine with a multifaceted mineral backbone and remarkable purity. Hand-harvested and vinified with minimal intervention—pneumatic pressing, low-temperature racking, and fermentation with neutral yeasts in stainless steel tanks—this wine honors the grape's innate freshness while showcasing the region's continental climate's crisp edge.In the glass, it gleams with a golden hue and bright reflections, releasing an inviting nose of citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit, laced with subtle lemongrass, menthol, and white flowers. On the palate, expect a harmonious balance of zesty acidity, nuanced fruit-driven flavors, and profound minerality that evokes wet stone and flinty tension. Medium-bodied yet elegantly refined, it finishes with a lively, saline snap, making it an ideal match for fresh oysters, goat cheese like Crottin de Chavignol, grilled seafood, or herb-infused salads. Approachable now but poised for 2–3 years of graceful evolution, this is Sancerre at its most accessible and delicious—proof that exceptional quality need not command premium prices.
