Crafted by Nicolas Grosbois and Philippe Mesnier at Domaine des Hauts Baigneux in Azay-le-Rideau, Loire Valley, La Grosse Pierre is a vibrant, organic Sauvignon Blanc from the Touraine region. Sourced from the domaine’s 12 hectares of vines, primarily in the flinty, clay-limestone terroir of the Hauts Baigneux lieu-dit, this non-vintage (NV) white is vinified with natural yeasts and minimal intervention, reflecting the duo’s commitment to organic and biodynamic practices since 2013.
The wine pours a pale straw color with green glints, offering a fresh, aromatic profile. Expect lively notes of citrus (grapefruit, lemon zest), green apple, and a hint of white flowers, underpinned by a subtle flinty minerality characteristic of the silex-heavy soils. On the palate, it’s crisp and taut, with bright acidity and a clean, refreshing finish. At around 12.5% ABV, it’s an ideal match for oysters, shrimp salad, goat cheese, or artichoke dishes, making it a versatile aperitif or food-friendly wine. This La Grosse Pierre embodies the Loire’s signature freshness and the domaine’s mission to revive the underrated Azay-le-Rideau terroir.
