The Domaine des Marrans Chiroubles 'Aux Côtes' 2023 is an elegant, fruit-forward red wine from the Chiroubles appellation in Beaujolais, France, produced by a family estate founded in 1970 by Jean-Jacques and Liliane Mélinand and now led by their son Mathieu since 2009, with a total of 20 hectares across several crus including Fleurie, Juliénas, and Morgon. Crafted from 100% Gamay grapes sourced from 50-60-year-old vines in the steep, single-vineyard lieu-dit "Aux Côtes" at 400 meters elevation on coarse, stony granite and clay soils with east and southwest exposures, this wine embodies the light, perfumed style of the region while showcasing organic practices in conversion to full certification. The nose is vibrant and singing, revealing aromas of raspberry, violet, fresh red berries, cherries, plums, lilac petals, sweet spices, crushed stones, red tea leaves, and subtle mineral and woody notes. On the palate, it offers a juicy, rounded profile with dense, fleshy texture, ripe yet contained fruit flavors of just-overripe raspberries, cherries, and confit red fruits, balanced by lively acidity, soft integrated tannins with a fine sandpaper grip, and hints of floral, spicy, and chalky minerality leading to a persistent, slightly warm finish. Vinified with manual harvests, cold settling, indigenous yeasts, semi-carbonic maceration of whole clusters for about 15 days, temperature-controlled fermentation, and 12 months of aging in large oak foudres without fining or filtering, this medium-bodied, dry wine at 13-13.5% ABV emphasizes freshness and sensuality
