DOMAINE LANDRON-CHARTIER Coteaux d'Ancenis "Gamay Toujours" '23 is a bright, juicy, and effortlessly charming red from the lesser-known Coteaux d'Ancenis appellation in the eastern Loire Valley, near Nantes (Pays Nantais sub-region).
Made by the talented duo at Domaine Landron-Chartier (organic pioneers building on Muscadet roots but excelling across varieties), this is their flagship Gamay cuvée — pure, fun, and terroir-transparent. It's 100% Gamay from organically farmed vines averaging 45 years old, rooted in micro-granite soils that lend a subtle mineral snap to the wine's lively fruit profile.
In the glass it pours a vivid ruby-red with purple tinges. The nose is fresh and perfumed: crunchy red cherry, strawberry, raspberry, a touch of wild cranberry, violet flowers, and a hint of wet stone and spice. On the palate it's light- to medium-bodied, super quaffable — bursting with acidulous red berries, tart cherry, and a subtle earthy/peppery edge, all lifted by brisk Loire acidity, fine silky tannins, and a clean, mineral-tinged finish that keeps it refreshing and gulpable.
Destemmed grapes with a short 3-week maceration (semi-carbonic vibes in some notes), fermented naturally, and aged in stainless or neutral vessels to preserve purity—no oak here. The 2023 vintage sits around 12.5% ABV, certified organic, and drinks beautifully now through 2026–2027. Serve it with a light chill (around 55°F) to amp up the freshness, and pair it with charcuterie, grilled sausages, roast poultry, mushroom dishes, or just about anything off the grill—it's a classic "glou-glou" Loire red that's serious without being stuffy.
