A beautiful collaborative project between two pillars of the Italian natural wine scene. Paolo Foppiani tends the family’s historic land in the hills of Bobbio (Fognano locality), while Giulio Armani (Denavolo & La Stoppa) lends his touch in the cellar. First vintage was 2017; this is the second release of the rosso.
The wine is a blend of Barbera and Bonarda (Croatina) grown on clay and stony soils over limestone mother rock at 300–400m elevation. Farmed organically with zero added sulfur. The grapes macerated for 15 days on the skins, then the wine aged 10 months in stainless steel before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
In the glass: dark cherry, plum, gentle spice, and an earthy undergrowth note. Juicy and rustic with vibrant acidity and that honest, soulful character you hope for from a small-plot Emilia natural red. Medium-bodied, very food-friendly, and full of life.
