The G.D. Vajra 2019 Bricco delle Viole Barolo is an exquisite expression of Nebbiolo from the prestigious Barolo DOCG in Piedmont, Italy, crafted by the renowned family-owned estate of G.D. Vajra. Sourced from the high-elevation Bricco delle Viole vineyard (at 400-480 meters above sea level) in the commune of Barolo, this wine benefits from the site's unique clay-calcareous soils rich in Sant'Agata marl and fossils, which impart exceptional mineral depth and vertical structure. The 2019 vintage, marked by balanced weather conditions, yields a wine of remarkable energy and nuance, aged for 28 months in large Slavonian oak casks before bottling. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby hue with jeweled clarity. The nose is beguiling and reticent at first, unfolding layers of black cherry, fresh roses, violets, and dark berries, laced with graphite, crushed rocks, mint, sage, incense, and subtle mentholated citrus notes. On the palate, it's a study in silk-textured elegance—juicy and vibrant, with succulent raspberry, ripe cherry, eucalyptus, and mineral accents balanced by noble, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a resonant, expansive finish infused with delicate spices and chalky persistence. Still youthful and introverted, it offers profound depth and graceful concentration, promising evolution over the next decade or more.Critics rave about its finesse: 97 points from Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck for its Burgundian poise and length; 96 points from Wine Spectator for its fluid, hay-tinged vibrancy; and 97 points from Vinous for its brooding potency. Ideal for pairing with roasted veal, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses, this Barolo is a cellar star, best enjoyed from 2025 through 2040.
