Domaine Gadais Père & Fils 'Navineaux Amphibolite' Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie 2023

From one of the most historic parcels in Muscadet, this cuvée comes from the Navineaux (or Les Avineaux) vineyard in Vertou — a 3-hectare enclosed site with northeastern exposure near the confluence of the Sèvre and Maine rivers. The soil here is dominated by amphibolite, a rare iron- and magnesium-rich metamorphic rock that gives the wine distinctive structure, minerality, and elegance compared to more typical gneiss or granite soils in the region.

Gadais farms this parcel with a light touch (native yeasts, minimal sulfur) and ages the wine sur lie in tank, building texture, subtle complexity, and a gentle spritz while preserving freshness.

The 2023 vintage shows classic poise: a pure, precise nose of citrus zest, white blossom, and wet stone, with a touch of green apple and saline minerality. On the palate it’s lively and silky at once — bright acidity, citrus and mineral flavors, and a clean, stony finish with just a hint of bread-like depth from the lees aging. It has a bit more weight and definition than entry-level Muscadet thanks to the amphibolite terroir.
