La Boutanche Gamay is a delightful, easy-drinking red wine crafted by winemaker Olivier Minot in collaboration with importer Selection Massale. Sourced from organically farmed Gamay grapes in southern Beaujolais, France, this cuvée often comes from vines up to 90 years old, rooted in granite-based soils that lend a subtle minerality. Fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete tanks and bottled with minimal to no sulfur, it’s a pure, unadulterated expression of the grape. Typically presented in a generous 1-liter bottle with a playful screw-cap, it’s designed for casual enjoyment.
On the nose, it bursts with fresh-picked cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, accented by hints of black tea and forest floor earthiness. The palate is light, dry, and chillable, delivering juicy red fruit—think cranberry and red plum—balanced by vibrant acidity and soft tannins. Subtle spicy and woody notes, like tilled soil or black pepper, add depth without weighing it down. This is a charming, quaffable wine that’s sophisticated yet approachable, perfect for weekday barbecues, game nights, or pairing with roasted chicken, fries, or grilled veggies. Serve it slightly chilled to amplify its refreshing, glou-glou vibe.
