The La Cabotte Côtes du Rhône Colline Rouge is an elegant, biodynamic red blend from the sun-kissed southern Rhône Valley, crafted by Domaine la Cabotte near the village of Mondragon in the Drôme region. Founded in 1980 by Burgundian winemaker Gabriel d’Ardhuy and now lovingly tended by his daughter Marie-Pierre and her husband Éric Plumet, the estate spans 45 hectares of certified organic and biodynamic vineyards at 165 meters elevation in the cooler Massif d’Uchaux. This cuvée draws from Grenache (dominant), Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvèdre grapes grown on chalky limestone, siliceous sandstone, and argilo-sandy soils, vinified with spontaneous native yeast fermentation, a short post-fermentation maceration to soften tannins, and aging in stainless steel tanks—unfined and unfiltered for maximum purity and freshness. In the glass, it pours a vibrant ruby with purple highlights. The nose is charming and complex, weaving ripe red and black fruits like cherry, raspberry, and blackberry with subtle spice, garrigue herbs, thyme, and a hint of black pepper. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and harmonious, offering juicy fruit-driven flavors, silky tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral, slightly earthy undertone that adds finesse without heaviness. The finish is round, elegant, and lingering, with a touch of spice and fruit persistence.
