Le Coste Litrozzo Bianco is a lively and approachable natural white wine from the Lazio region of central Italy, produced by Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron at their Le Coste estate near Lake Bolsena in Gradoli. This wine is a field blend of indigenous grape varieties, primarily Procanico and Malvasia, with smaller amounts of Roscetto, Verdello, Petino, and Romanesco, grown on volcanic soils rich in iron and minerals. The vines, tended organically and biodynamically across their 14-hectare ecosystem of vineyards, olive groves, and woodlands, reflect the duo’s commitment to sustainable farming and harmony with nature.
Crafted with minimal intervention, Litrozzo Bianco undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts after a brief period of skin contact—typically a couple of days—which imparts a slight texture and a cloudy, vibrant appearance. The wine is aged for a short time, around nine months, in fiberglass tanks, and bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without added sulfites. Presented in a convenient 1-liter format, its name "Litrozzo" nods to this generous, easy-drinking size, perfect for sharing.
In the glass, it displays a hazy straw-yellow hue with a touch of golden depth. The nose bursts with bright, crunchy fruit notes—think pomelo, mango, and salted starfruit—accented by hints of citrus zest, basil, and verbena, all underpinned by a subtle minerality from the volcanic terroir. On the palate, it’s dry and refreshing, with lively acidity, a whisper of spice, and a juicy, textured finish that invites another sip. At around 11.5-12% alcohol, it’s light-bodied yet flavorful, embodying drinkability without sacrificing character.
Litrozzo Bianco is a quintessential summer wine, ideal for casual gatherings, picnics, or pairing with simple dishes like pasta alla carbonara, fresh cheeses, or seafood. Serve chilled at 10-12°C, and enjoy its pure, unpolished expression of Lazio’s landscape and Le Coste’s natural wine ethos. Each vintage may vary slightly, reflecting the hands-off approach and the whims of the harvest, making it a true snapshot of time and place.
