Les Vins Pirouettes Eros de Vincent is a captivating natural orange wine from Alsace, France, born from a collaboration between biodynamic grower Vincent Gross of Domaine Gross and Christian Binner’s Les Vins Pirouettes project, which champions small, organic producers. This cuvée is a dynamic blend of Alsatian white grapes—typically 35% Gewürztraminer, 25% Pinot Gris, 20% Auxerrois, 10% Riesling, and 10% Sylvaner—sourced from Gross’s vineyards near Gueberschwihr, where limestone, clay, and sandstone soils lend depth and minerality. The vines, averaging 25-40 years old, are farmed biodynamically, ensuring a pure expression of the terroir.
The winemaking is minimal and precise: hand-harvested grapes (30% whole cluster, 70% destemmed) undergo a 14-day skin maceration with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, extracting color and texture without heavy tannin. After fermentation, the wine ages for six months in traditional Alsatian foudres (large, old oak barrels), then is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfites. The result is a vibrant, living wine with an alcohol content of around 12-13%, depending on the vintage, balancing freshness with substance.
In the glass, Eros de Vincent glows a hazy amber-orange, a hallmark of its skin-contact style. The nose is an aromatic whirlwind—ripe peach, apricot, and juicy nectarine from Gewürztraminer mingle with Pinot Gris’s spiced pear and Auxerrois’s floral lift, while Riesling and Sylvaner add citrus zest and a saline edge. On the palate, it’s dry and lively, with a gentle tannic grip, bright acidity, and flavors of orange pith, stone fruit, and a subtle funky minerality that finishes crisp and refreshing. It’s glou-glou (gulpable) yet layered, a testament to its thoughtful crafting.
This wine shines with food—think roasted poultry, creamy cheeses, or seafood with a citrus twist—and is best served lightly chilled (50-55°F) to highlight its vibrancy. Eros de Vincent embodies the Pirouettes ethos: affordable, authentic, and full of personality, with a nod to eros (love) in its flirtatious, fruit-forward charm. It’s a small-production standout (often under 1,000 bottles) that captures Alsace’s natural wine renaissance in every sip.
