Michel Tété Beaujolais-Villages “La Roche” 2023
Domaine du Clos du Vieux Bourg, Régnié (Beaujolais), France
100 % Gamay · Old vines · Hand-harvested · Semi-carbonic · No added yeastA masterclass in what pure, vibrant Beaujolais-Villages can be when made by a quiet legend.Vineyards
“La Roche” comes from a steep, east-facing parcel of 60- to 80-year-old vines planted on pink granite and sandy gravel just outside the cru of Régnié. The altitude (350–400 m) and poor soils give naturally low yields and nervy acidity even in a ripe year.2023 vintage
A generous, sun-kissed growing season that produced beautifully healthy fruit with thick skins and perfect ripeness. The wines are a touch fuller and darker-fruited than the electric 2022s, yet they kept dazzling freshness thanks to cool September nights.Tasting note
Deep ruby-purple with a neon rim. The nose explodes with crunchy black cherry, wild raspberry, violet pastilles, peony, and that tell-tale cracked-black-pepper note that only top granite Beaujolais delivers. On the palate it’s medium-bodied (13 % alc feels lighter), silky and seamless, with fine, chalky tannins and mouth-watering acidity. Flavours of just-picked red and black berries roll into a long, mineral, almost salty finish with a hint of smoky stone. Zero make-up — whole-cluster, semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete, aged 7–8 months on fine lees, bottled unfiltered with minimal SO₂.Style
Joyous, precise, and seriously age-worthy (5–10 years easy), yet irresistible right now. Think top Morgon or Fleurie character at Villages price.
