"Moussamoussettes" from Agnès & René Mosse is a joyful and effervescent pét-nat (pétillant naturel) that captures the essence of natural winemaking from the Loire Valley’s Anjou region. Crafted by the iconic duo Agnès and René Mosse—now joined by their sons Joseph and Sylvestre—this sparkling rosé hails from their biodynamic estate in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay, where vines thrive on schist and sandstone soils. Typically a blend of Grolleau, Pineau d’Aunis, and Cabernet Franc (proportions varying by vintage), the grapes are hand-harvested from organically farmed plots, pressed slowly, and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts. Bottled before fermentation completes using the ancestral method, it traps natural carbonation under a crown cap, resulting in a frothy, slightly hazy coral-pink wine. The nose bursts with strawberry, raspberry, and grapefruit zest, often with a whisper of wildflowers or spice, while the palate is dry, lively, and refreshing, with fine bubbles and a crisp, mineral-driven finish. At around 11-12% ABV, it’s an unfiltered, unfined delight with no added sulfur, embodying the Mosse family’s philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum pleasure. Perfect for picnics, brunches, or any moment needing a burst of fun, "Moussamoussettes" is a cult favorite that dances on the tongue with effortless charm.
