OJAI VINEYARD Pinot Noir Clima Frío Santa Barbara '24 is a luminous, elegant, and classically restrained cool-climate Pinot Noir from Adam Tolmach at The Ojai Vineyard in California’s Ojai Valley.
Adam has been crafting some of Santa Barbara’s most refined, European-inspired wines since 1983, always chasing balance, transparency, and pure terroir expression over power or extraction. The Clima Frío (“Cool Climate”) series highlights the coldest, most maritime-influenced pockets of the region—replacing the former Santa Barbara County bottling with fruit from the chilliest sites available. For the 2024, it’s a seamless blend of Pinot Noir sourced from the Santa Maria Valley (notably Presqu’ile and similar blocks) and vineyards just west of the Sta. Rita Hills, where persistent fog, strong coastal breezes, and long, cool ripening seasons deliver bright acidity and delicate aromatics.
Grapes are hand-harvested at perfect maturity, fermented with native yeasts (partial whole-cluster for structure and perfume), and aged gently in neutral French oak to preserve freshness and site character. No heavy extraction, no new oak bombast—just purity and finesse.
The 2024 pours a pale, translucent ruby with brilliant clarity. The nose is fragrant and lifted: wild strawberry, red cherry, rose petal, crushed mint, subtle cedar, and a hint of earthy spice. On the palate it’s light-to-medium bodied, vibrant and energetic, with mouthwatering acidity, silky tannins, a savory mineral edge, and a long, graceful finish that feels weightless yet deeply flavorful.
