Quinta do Ermízio Vinho Verde is a vibrant, refreshing white wine from the Vinho Verde region in northern Portugal, produced by Quinta do Ermízio, a winery established in 1984 and run by Antonio A. Monteiro, a retired horticulture professor. Crafted from a blend of indigenous grapes, primarily Loureiro and Trajadura, with some expressions including Arinto or Alvarinho, the wine is grown on 15 hectares of granitic soils at around 500 meters elevation. The vines are trained in traditional pergola systems to protect against humidity and are farmed organically with minimal interventions and abundant cover crops. The wine is hand-harvested, pressed, and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh, fruity character. A small amount of CO2 is added at bottling, giving it a signature slight effervescence. Quinta do Ermízio Vinho Verde is light-bodied, crisp, and zesty, with aromas of lemon curd, green apple, and floral notes, complemented by flavors of citrus (lemon, lime, grapefruit), pear, nectarine, and a subtle mineral umami backbone. Its vibrant acidity and coastal salinity make it an ideal pairing for shellfish, vegetarian dishes, or light appetizers. With an ABV of around 11.5%, it’s a dry, easy-drinking wine perfect for warm days or casual gatherings.
