Rabasco Bianco Cancelli is a lively, natural white wine from the Abruzzo region of Italy, crafted by Iole Rabasco, a former lawyer turned winemaker who took over her family’s vineyard in Pianella in the early 2000s. Made from 100% Trebbiano d’Abruzzo grapes, this wine hails from the “Cancelli” vineyard, a 4-hectare plot sitting 450 meters above sea level in Loreto Aprutino, Pescara province. The 40-year-old vines, trained in the traditional pergola (tendone) style, thrive in clay-limestone soils between the Gran Sasso mountains and the Adriatic Sea, soaking up a unique microclimate that lends freshness and character.
This is an artisanal, low-intervention wine—fermentation kicks off spontaneously with native yeasts in fiberglass or cement tanks, no temperature control, followed by aging in stainless steel. There’s a brief maceration on the skins, adding a touch of texture and depth, and no added sulfur, fining, or filtration, keeping it pure and unpolished. The result is a straw-yellow pour, sometimes slightly hazy, bursting with aromas of white flowers, ripe yellow fruit, citrus zest, and a whisper of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it’s fresh, agile, and savory, with bright acidity, a subtle mineral streak, and a salty finish that screams easy-drinking appeal.
At around 10-12% ABV, it’s light yet flavorful, perfect as an aperitif or alongside seafood, fish dishes, or a simple salad—try it with moscardini and green beans for a classic pairing. Priced typically between $25-$35 for a 750ml bottle, it’s a standout for natural wine lovers seeking authenticity over flash. Serve chilled at 8-10°C in a medium tulip glass to let its vibrant personality shine.
