"Hanami" from Domaine Bobinet is a joyful, natural red wine that captures the spirit of spring in every sip. Crafted by Sébastien Bobinet and Émeline Calvez in Saumur, Loire Valley, this 100% Cabernet Franc comes from organic vines aged 30-50 years, grown on argilo-calcaire (clay-limestone) soils. Named after the Japanese tradition of admiring cherry blossoms ("Hanami"), it’s a celebration of renewal, conviviality, and fleeting beauty—perfectly mirrored in its vibrant, fruit-driven profile.
Hand-harvested grapes are vinified with minimal intervention: a blend of traditional fermentation and partial carbonic maceration with native yeasts in concrete tanks softens the tannins, highlighting the grape’s aromatic freshness. Aged briefly (around 4-6 months) in neutral oak barrels, it’s bottled unfiltered with little to no sulfur, preserving its lively character. The result is a light-to-medium-bodied wine with a ruby hue, bursting with juicy red fruits—think cherry, raspberry, and a hint of plum—plus floral violet notes and a subtle peppery lift. Its texture is airy and fluid, with fine, silky tannins and a crisp, refreshing finish.
At around 12.5% ABV, "Hanami" is a quintessential vin de soif—thirst-quenching and versatile. Serve it slightly chilled (16-18°C) with a quick decant to unlock its charm, pairing it with grilled meats, charcuterie, or a summer salad. Drink it young to savor its exuberance, though it can evolve subtly over a couple of years. Sébastien, an eighth-generation vigneron, and Émeline, a former sommelier, infuse this wine with their passion for pure, terroir-driven expressions, making "Hanami" a delightful staple for natural wine enthusiasts.
