Inspired by serpentinite—California's official state rock, a metamorphic formation abundant in the Coast Range mountains—Serpentinite pays tribute to the ancient, rugged geology of San Benito County, home to some of California's most historic and expressive vineyards. This captivating orange wine from winemaker Ryan Stirm is crafted primarily from old-vine Riesling sourced from the legendary, dry-farmed Wirz Vineyard, with a touch of Falanghina adding brightness and lift. Hand-harvested grapes undergo extended whole-cluster skin maceration (approximately 17 days), a traditional technique that extracts amber color, phenolic texture, and profound complexity while preserving vibrant natural acidity. The result is a bone-dry, thoughtfully structured wine with a grippy tannic mouthfeel and layers of flavor that evolve in the glass.Tasting Notes
  • Aromas: Orange zest, apricot, chamomile tea, wild herbs, and subtle pine resin.
  • Palate: Dried stone fruit, citrus marmalade, nutty undertones, gentle spice, and a tactile, phenolic grip balanced by lively acidity.
  • Finish: Fresh, persistent, and thought-provoking.
Low-intervention winemaking—native yeasts, neutral barrel aging, minimal sulfur—ensures purity and site expression in this small-batch release.Ideal for adventurous drinkers, Serpentinite pairs beautifully with spicy cuisine, hard cheeses, charcuterie, or roasted vegetables. Serve slightly chilled to highlight its texture and vibrancy.A bold, innovative expression of California natural wine—geology in a glass.
