2024 Tenuta Le Origini dal 1919 “Passanello” Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC, Emilia-Romagna
From the family-owned Tenuta Le Origini dal 1919 in the rolling hills between Vignola and Castelvetro (Modena), this vibrant, authentic Lambrusco comes from the estate’s namesake Passanello vineyard. The vines were planted in the late 1970s on clay-rich soils at 150–280 m elevation with excellent south/southeast exposure. These hillside sites give the grapes more structure, concentration, and aromatic lift than the flatter plains vineyards—classic for the powerful, tannic personality of Lambrusco Grasparossa.
Hand-harvested fruit undergoes a short 4-day maceration followed by fermentation in stainless steel. The wine then receives its lively, persistent sparkle via the traditional Charmat method (refermentation in autoclave for about five weeks). The result is a dry secco frizzante with bright acidity, fine bubbles, and the firm yet approachable tannins that distinguish Grasparossa from lighter Lambrusco styles. Certified-organic farming and minimal intervention keep everything pure and expressive.
In the glass it pours a brilliant ruby red with violet reflections. The nose is fresh and fragrant—violets, wild cherry, ripe blackberry, redcurrant, and a hint of forest undergrowth. On the palate it’s juicy and energetic: dark berry fruit, a touch of spice, fine bubbles that dance across the tongue, and a clean, mouthwatering finish framed by that signature Grasparossa grip.
